Applying to the Kidd
Successful Kidd Tutorial applicants are motivated to develop their writing and their literary craft through serious intellectual engagement. In addition, they have a deep commitment to helping their peers grow as artists..
Many Kidd Tutorial students also pursue a minor in creative writing. The Kidd Tutorial fulfills half of the requirements for the minor.
If, after reading carefully through our website, you have questions, please contact the Kidd Tutorial Director at any time during the year:
Undergraduate application materials must be submitted online.
Applications are accepted for Fall entry only.
DEADLINE TO APPLY:
5:00pm on Friday, March 9, 2018!
Undergraduates must submit the following (online or in paper):
- Application Form
- Personal Statement
We would like to know your favorite single sentence in all of the literature you have ever read, or the two most powerful lines of poetry you have encountered. Fiction writers need not limit their selections to prose, nor should poets feel the need to limit themselves to poetry. In a brief statement, use the chosen passage to give us an idea of your relationship to the literature you love, and what you hope to achieve in the Kidd Tutorial.
- Writing Sample
Submit up to ten pages in your genre of choice (fiction or poetry). Submissions in prose should be double-spaced; poetry should be single-spaced. Unfinished stories are acceptable, but please provide the first ten pages (rather than the middle or final ten) of any given sample.
Applicants may wish to be considered for both genres. If so, the applicant should submit a shorter, five-page writing sample in the genre of second choice.
Unofficial current transcripts (including Winter term grades) with overall GPA. Copies of applicant’s DuckWeb degree audits are acceptable.
