His essays have been listed as Notable in Best American Essays 2013 and 2020. He has been anthologized in Rust Belt Chic: A Cincinnati Anthology, Best of Brevity: Twenty Groundbreaking Years of Flash Nonfiction, and Welcome to the Neighborhood: An Anthology of American Co-Existence.

Honors & Awards

He was a Steinbeck Fellow at San Jose State University and a Taft Fellow at the University of Cincinnati. He won a 2018 Oregon Arts fellowship in Nonfiction, a Borchardt Scholarship at the Sewanee Writer’s Conference, and an Elizabeth George Foundation grant. He has also been awarded residencies at Tin House, the VCCA, and the Centrum. He is the former associate editor of the Cincinnati Review and the former fiction editor of Memorious: A Journal of New Verse and Fiction.
