Poet, essayist, literary critic, and translator, Robert Pinsky served as Poet Laureate Consultant in Poetry to the Library of Congress from 1997 to 2000. He earned his B.A. from Rutgers University and his M.A. and Ph.D. from Stanford University, where he held a Wallace Stegner Fellowship.

Pinsky is the author of 19 books, most of which are collections of his own poetry. His numerous literary awards and honors include the National Book Critics Circle Award in Criticism, a National
Endowment for the Humanities Fellowship, the Saxifrage Prize, the William Carlos Williams Award of the Poetry Society of America, a nomination for the Pulitzer Prize in Poetry, the Ambassador
Book Award in Poetry of the English Speaking Union, and the Lenore Marshall Award. His published work also includes critically acclaimed translations. He teaches at Boston University and is the
poetry editor at Slate.
